About Speculum Lupi

Speculum Lupi (Latin for: Wolf Mirror) is an interactive installation built in the course of Project Exhibition, a study project at the CMGT programme at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. The installation consists of a furry box made of wood with a rectangular peace of semi-transparent mirror glass on its front face. The inside of the box contains a wolf mask covered by LEDs.

Interaction takes place via sensors (motion, proximity, light) and actuators (LEDs, servo motor) connected to an Arduino Uno. The programming language used to enable the interaction is Processing.

Speculum Lupi is inspired by the fantasy creature werewolf. The installation refers to the "beast" each human being carries within them, for example in the form of basic instincts or uncontrolled emotions.
